DIY Manuals

Our self-study furniture making teaching manuals are available for purchase as downloadable PDFs or as hard-copy print-outs when purchased with a kit. The manuals for the first ten furniture making projects include step-by-step instructions, colour illustrations, cutting lists and fully-dimensioned drawings and plans. The skilled projects (colour coded in grey) comprise of a cutting list and drawings only.

As the furniture making projects become progressively more challenging, we recommend that beginners start with any of our first three self assembly projects to allow them to master basic woodworking skills and Scottish furniture making techniques. Support is also available from Lethenty Mill Furniture owner, Allan Fyfe: On purchasing your furniture making project manual, you can sign up to our free online woodworking forum, which has a special area for distance learners. This means that you can ask Allan directly about any issues or queries you have regarding your chosen woodworking project. The forum also allows you to share knowledge and experience with others.

At present, 25 furniture making kits and project manuals are available for purchase. The first ten project manuals provide detailed instructions and photographs and gradually introduce new techniques and skills. The remaining projects vary in complexity. The 'skilled' projects are colour coded in grey and are supplied with a cutting list and drawings only, rather than a detailed instruction manual. These projects are recommended for experienced woodworkers, or those who have successfully completed some of the beginners or intermediate projects.
